Day 44,

Oh, it's getting so exciting in our classroom. I am so proud of the students learning to follow rules, cleaning up after themselves, walking quietly in the hall, doing their work carefully and neatly, and so on and so on. Now that we have evolved to the next level, behavior ways, I am announcing our first field trip!!!!!!!!!!!! Permission slips will go home tomorrow.

On Monday, we will walking to Mrs. Vidal's house to decorate cookies. Mrs. Vidal will show us how she makes and colors the icing, as well as how she decorates them. We will then have a turn at putting our creative decorating on our own cookies. This lesson corresponds with our letter C.
Tomorrow we will be reading the book "Who Took the Cookie from the Cookie Jar."

Today we all read to Morah J, as it was her first day back. She was so proud to hear all of the students reading and writing nicely. We first started off with a worksheet of capital and lower case letters. This was a bit difficult for the students. From there, we decorated the front and back of our C books. The front said "candy" and the back said "I am 5 years old". They also decorated a paper cupcake.

Since the projects didn't take as long today, the students had time for centers. Alot of them worked on the logic folder games.

In the afternoon, we continued in our math workbook, chapter 2 (counting and matching). We worked on "which has fewer" and "adding one more".

On Friday, we will be making a C salad with items that start with only C. Please let your child bring one thing to school...cabbage (purple or green), cauliflower, a carrot or two, cucumber, or croutons.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE PARENTS WHO ARE NOW SENDING HEALTHY SNACKS OF FRUIT AND VEGGIES TO SCHOOL. I am trying to encourage healthier options as to empty calorie carbs, such as chips, crackers, etc. The students are very excited to show their fruit and veggies that they bring.

Day 43

Today we started off with a review of the letter C. Girls and Boys lined up in separate lines and each took turns writing Cc on the board. It was a challenge to stay within the lines. I called it a "tie", both teams were equally great.
From there, we did worksheets on the letter C. In addition to those, we did a rhyming worksheet.
Afterwards, we once again read the book "Mat" using sentence strips. Each student took turns reading a line from the book. Hooray, we are all reading!!
Once we finished lunch and recess, we had a quick fire drill. Wow, it's loud, but the kids were great.
Finally, we worked on our math.....

Day 42

Today we started off the week with the letter Cc. We practiced writing the letter Cc on dry erase boards. I read the story "Curly Caterpillar." All of the students made curly puppets with the story attached. They also sequenced a mini book to go along with the puppet. They also played a recall game of C words from the story.
In the afternoon, we started a new chapter in our math workbooks.
I have been trying to encourage the students to bring more fruit and veggies for snack and lunch, rather then candy, cookies, or sweets. They will get an extra mitzvah ticket for each healthy food they bring and eat.
I will doing conferences on Wednesday afternoon if you feel you would like one. Please email me at: sgrosmanfam@hotmail.com

Day 41

If you would like to schedule a conference with me, I am meeting with parents on Wednesday, starting at 1:00. Conferences are only 15 minutes, the next available one is at 1:30. Please email me at: sgrosmanfam@hotmail.com.

Yesterday, we finished our Thanksgiving Storybooks. The students brought them home yesterday, along with other Thanksgiving projects. Please take the time to let your child read you the story, they are very proud of them.

We also continued the letter Tt with tooth, toothpaste, and toothbrush. On monday, I will speak more about brushing their teeth and good dental habits.

We ended the day with a touching movie called "Molly's Pilgrim." It is a beautiful story about a Jewish Russian girl who immigrates to America with her family. Molly and her classmates learn a lesson of thanksgiving when they all realize that Molly, too, is a pilgrim....someone who leaves their country to practice religious freedom.

Day 40 and 41

It took two days to ready this story.
The last two days, we have been working on Thanksgiving, letter Tt, and finishing our math chapter on patterns.
Today we made "I am thankful for..." books. Some of the responses were adorable! Of course, lots of "I am thankful for mommy and daddy".
We added three more pages in our "Thankgiving Story" book. (Plymouth Rock, Mayflower, and Pilgrims)
The students painted a picture of a turkey with the method of pointillism. This technique involves painting the entire picture with dots. In addition to the dots, the students had to dot by color. (each section was labeled by color)

Day 39, Getting Ready for Thanksgiving

The story we read today.

I am sorry that I missed yesterday's conferences...I had a bad cold, but am feeling much better today.

Today we worked in our Thanksgiving Storybook. The students did their indian page. The book is a take off from the story: Brown Bear, Brown Bear. The indian page said: Indian, Indian what do you see?

The students cut out pictures of words that begin with T and glued them on a large T. They also did several worksheets with the letter T.

I also had them work in their phonics workbook. After all their work was finished, the students worked at different centers.

You child may have told you that we are now eating in the lunchroom. Pleae reinforce good table manners, sitting on their bottoms, using a napkin, and cleaning up any mess they may have made. Also, please do not send candy to school. I will not let them eat it.

Day 39, chicken visit

We had a very special surprise visitor today. My sister's silkie chicken was sitting on a hatching egg. By the time she arrived to the school, the egg hatched. If you look carefully, you can see the chick in from of the black hen.

Today we started on the letter Tt. I read the story of Tom Turkey. The students then made their own Tom Turkey puppets. Afterwards, they colored and cut out sequencing cards to the story and made a little book.

Some of the students have read their very first book: MAT. The ones who have read it to a teacher were allowed to take it home to share with the family. Please have you child read to you, they are so proud to be reading.

We made the cover for our T book: Tt is for Texas

Day 38

There will be no pictures for 2 weeks, my son and his wife borrowed my camera for their honeymoon.

Today was a very busy day...the students rotated between centers:

1. painting table (finger painted their names)
2. phonics workbook (review letters M and F)
3. finished their November calenders (numbers)
4. handwriting, letter Aa
5. sensory sand table
6. play dough...making words with the letters A, M, S, T, and F
7. veritech
8. optional other centers of their choice

In the afternoon, we counted out our mitzvah tickets, redeemed them for prizes, and prepared our folders with the weekly work. Please don't forget to empty them and keep the work at home.

I also laminated some of their special work and we organized it into their binders. The students loved seeing their work from the months past.

On another note, I have had some feedback on the movies being shown in Kindergarten. I can assure you, they are not moving videos, they are simply books on DVD, with subtitles to the songs and stories. The children sing and read along with the books. All of the books are scholastic children's literature, and was shown to Mrs. Epstein. If you would like to come in and see these books on dvd, i would be happy to show them to you.
